6 Hair Colors That Won’t Damage Your Hair

Experiment with your hair this season and try a new hair color! Believe it or not there are quite a few ways to give yourself a nice change without having to worry about dryness or damage. Here are 6 ways that you can add some color without any need for permanent hair dye or harsh bleach:

Hair Rinse

A semi- permanent hair rinse will add a tint to your hair color and overtime will eventually rinse out of your hair, as the name of the product implies. While you will not get a dramatic color change, for example going from extremely dark off black hair to very light colored honey tresses, probably won’t happen. Rinses are still a great way to change things up. Best of all they’re not as drying to the hair as permanent hair color.  This particular brand has nourishing ingredients like Aloe Vera, Jojoba oil & Vitamin E. Its available on Amazon.

6 Ways to Color Your Hair Without Dryness or DamageMany naturals love Henna because in addition to being a way to add a hint of color to your hair it can also serve as a way to give your hair a good deep conditioning treatment. Mix your Henna with conditioner and leave it on for the desired length of time.  Aim for at least 15 to 3o minutes. The longer you leave it on the better the results. This mixture is gentle enough for you leave on overnight and wash out in the morning.  The result is moisturized hair with a new subtle color. With successive treatments Henna can even cover up some grays.  Just be careful because it can get messy.

Indigo can be used in combination with Henna to tackle stubborn grays. It’s a bit of a process, however, it’s an all natural way to cover grays without the need for permanent hair color. After you finish applying Henna you can proceed with an Indigo application and it does a fabulous job! Kimmaytube has a tutorial that does a great job of explaining how this works, which you can view below:

Manic Panic

Manic Panic is a semi-permanent vegan hair color known for its vibrant punk rock style. In this collection you will find blues, purples, and wild reds. It rinses out of your hair with each wash that you do. Again, with this do not expect a dramatic color change unless you already have light colored hair or you are willing to bleach your hair in order to see a dramatic difference. On dark colored hair expect to a subtle tint. Get it on Amazon for $10.50.

Hair Chalks

hair chalk

While this method is super temporary, it’s highly effective at achieving a dramatic color change within minutes. Hair chalks come in a wide variety of colors to experiment and without doing much of anything they will pretty much dissolve out of your hair by the next day.

You can purchase them at a store like Walgreens or Target but Amazon has the kit pictured above. They come attached to what looks like a mini flat iron (don’t worry there is no heat involved). You attach the hair chalk to this gadget and then smooth it onto your hair, and in minutes you have a brand new color. Here is what purple hair chalks looked like on  my hair:

Eye Shadow

Yes, that is right. Eye shadow. This method is really no different than hair chalk, except it doesn’t come with a cool getup and you have to smooth it on for yourself. Vlogger, Mahogany Curls did this with blue eye shadow and it turned out amazing! Loved this. Make sure its a high intensity pigment eyeshadow like L’Oreal Hip High Intensity Pigments Concentrated Eye Shadow or Maybelline Color Tattoo Limited Edition EyeShadow.

“After my hair dried I applied @sheamoisture4u eyeshadow in Deysi on my ends for a color change. I always wanted to do this, so I gave it a shot and I love it! It’s fun, safe (no color damage) and it’s a great way to temporary change your look”, says Mahogany Curls.

Note: Sheamoisture Eyeshadow is available in limited retail locations. These are great substitutes: L’Oreal Hip High Intensity Pigments Concentrated Eye Shadow or Maybelline Color Tattoo Limited Edition EyeShadow.
